Tandem Skydive back to Earth! Central Coast 4393 5799 Sydney 9533 8833 Newcastle 1800 24 22 24

Age Restrictions .... Minimum age by law is 14 years. If your under 18years of age you will need Guardian consent. There is no maximum age restriction however we reserve the right to preclude anyone we think would be excessively at risk.

Breathing... Can I breath in freefall. Yes you can breath normally although some people complain that they could not breath in freefall. This is usually as a result of gulping air in and forgetting to exhale!  A bit like sticking your head out the car window at 200kph (not that you've ever tried that, right?)

Costs ... Current prices are available from the website. Some people ask why is skydiving so expensive? Well we don't think it is when you consider the costs involved in providing the service. For example did you know that the cost of replacing a Tandem Parachute system is around $20,000!

Chicken out ... What if I get up there and change my mind. We will not force you to do something that you don't want too. But no one ever does! Having got that far, it's obvious you wanted to experience the jump?

Freefall ... What's it like? That's really a personal one and depends on the individual and their frame of mind. But for me... anticipation, excitement, noise, fear, joy, satisfaction, freedom ...awe just do it!

How long will it last ...? At terminal speed you eat up altitude at 5.5seconds per thousand feet. It takes about 10-12 seconds to accelerate to terminal speed (approx 230kph). So from 14,000ft you get around 60 seconds, from 12,000feet 50 seconds 10,000feet 40seconds. Your parachute ride down will be the same time regardless of exit height approx 5 minutes.

Do you go up when the parachute opens ... yeah right! But so many people ask this. Its because we see it on TV. When the parachute opens and the camera man films it, you appear to go from the bottom of the screen up to the top.  But everyone is still coming down, just at different rates. But for all those budding physicists out there we know it's arguable that just for a micro second after parachute inflation it actually does move up a tiny wee bit!

Hurt... Does it hurt when the parachute opens? Usually not, but force experienced during opening does vary greatly from jump to jump. Often when I think it's been a harder than normal force my customers think its fine! Must be the adrenalin?

Landings ... We normally anticipate a slide landing rather than stand up, which you see more often see on TV. The slide landing as the name applies is more like coming down a water slide feet first then onto your bottom and slide along.     Not graceful to look at, but provides less force on your body than standing up. As always the forces do vary from jump to jump and we always attempt to get the softest landing possible.

Malfunction... What happens if the main parachute doesn't open? The systems are fitted with a reserve parachute. The Tandem systems are fitted with an additional automatic activating device, the AAD. There are various types...we use the German Cypres. So if the Tandem master does not use the reserve when he should have or is unable too, the AAD will override him and activate the reserve. Cool huh!

What should we wear ...? Just loose fitting comfortable clothes. We have jump suits to fit over your clothing as well. Most import is footwear. It should be a sports shoe, of the type very common these days. You know the ones with plenty of cushion and support. Not hiking boots and not tennis shoes though please. If you forget we have some you can borrow.

Should I eat before ...?  Yes you can but it should be planned so you eat an hour or two before you jump. Avoid fast food breakfast washed down with soft drink though! For obvious reasons!

Should I smoke to calm down ...?  Definitely not. Most people don't realise, smoking doesn't calm your nerves. Rather, it increases your pulse rate! More importantly, smoking takes up the vital oxygen from your blood stream. And where your going...up in altitude, there is far less oxygen available. This means a much higher risk of passing out and or being sick!

Physically fit ... Do I need a medical certificate? No you don't but you will need to be of average fitness and have the ability to lift your legs up for landing. You will be asked to sign a medical declaration stating that there is no physical reason that you know of, that would prevent you jumping safely. If in doubt consult your doctor before hand. Scuba divers should know not to dive before a jump for example.

Watch... Can our friends watch...? Yes they can, the more the better!  If they change their minds and want to jump, we often have a 'spot' rate on the day to entice them as well.
